Q: When are the tours?

A: We offer daily tours at 10am and 2pm with pick ups starting at 9:30am and

1:30 pm.

Q: Where do you pick up guests?

A: We pick up at the many trolley stops in the downtown area, designated by a blue bus on a white sign

that says “Local Tour Buses Only”. Tell us where you are and we will direct you to thenearest one with a

scheduled pick up time. They are usually just a block or two away from any location. We also pick up at most area

Inns and Hotels that have a passenger-loading zone. Upon returning to Downtown,we can drop you off close to wherever you’d like to go.

Q: Is this just a shuttle to and from the cemetery?

A: No. This is a Bonaventure Cemetery walking tour with complimentary transportation on our concierge shuttle. The driver is also the guide.

Q: What do you mean by “Concierge Shuttle”?

A: Southern Hospitality isn’t a catch phrase with us, it’s how we were raised. So we offer our guests cold bottled water, bug spray when the gnats and mosquitos are out, an umbrella if it looks like rain, and recommendations on lunch, dinner, other tours and activities, etc. We want you to have the best experience possible while you are in our hometown.

Q: Is this a driving tour of the cemetery?

A: No. We pick up our guests downtown, take them to the cemetery, get off the bus and narrate a 1hr 45min walking tour of the grounds. We then get back on the bus and go back Downtown and drop off at requested stops. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.

Q: How many people does the bus hold?

A: We have 12 seats and 2 Wheelchair positions.

Q: I want to drive my own car. Can I meet you out there?

A: Of Course. Call to schedule and we will set it up for you.

Q: Is this a ghost tour?

A: Absolutely not. This is a history and sight seeing tour.

Q: How long does the tour last?

A: From pick up to drop off, the excursion is usually between 2.5 and 3hrs. The tour of the cemetery itself is just under 2hrs. It all depends on traffic, travel time, size of the group, etc. We don’t like to rush and we want to make sure that everyone gets time to take pictures and linger when something catches their attention. Believe me, it goes by fast and is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon.

Q: Are there restrooms available?

A: Yes, but they few and far between. There are a couple at the entrance and porta potties in the middle of the cemetery. We stop at the ones at the entrance on the way in and out, when needed.

Q: What if it rains?

A: We generally go out rain or shine and provide umbrellas to our guests. The cemetery is beautiful in the rain and is quite an experience, but if it’s really coming down or lightening, we cancel the tour and issue refunds.

Q: Is their wheelchair access?

A: Yes. The bus has a wheelchair lift and two wheelchair positions and a lot of Bonaventure’s historic section is accessible, but it can be difficult in some areas. Most of the tour is on dirt roads and paths under an oak tree canopy. Exposed roots are common. We do the best we can to help you see everything on the tour.

Q: How much does it cost? When do we pay? Do you take credit?

A: $25 for adults with discounts for military and children. That’s exactly (if not less than) what the other walking tours charge to “meet you out there”. We accept payment by cash or credit card at the end of the tour.

Q: Do you offer other tours?

A: Not regularly, at least not yet. But the bus is available for specials with group rates if you want to tour downtown in climate controlled comfort or maybe go out to Wormsloe, or Fort Pulaski and Tybee Island, or maybe a complete low country tour of it all with a lunch stop somewhere. Call us and we will work it out for you. We are also available for private transportation for special events.
